A slice of humble pie for me, please...

Hello Reader,

In last week’s email I talked about Autistic Advocates and Allyship after the announcement of the new Autistic Barbie.

And I shared an example of someone who I believed was speaking over Autistic voices. But now I want to tell you that I made a mistake.

Not about the importance of letting members of marginalised communities lead conversations that are about them, I stand by that - but about the individual’s identity.

After an initial exchange, (and after I had already sent my email) the person Iater responded again to tell me they ‘have confirmed ASD’ (these are their words not mine).

Whilst I could give you a list of reasons that I was thought my assertions were accurate, it is clear now that what I thought I knew about this person was actually an incomplete picture.

Do I regret engaging with the person? No. Do I regret writing an email about it? No. Because here’s the thing - regret only serves to make you feel uncomfortable and when you sit in that too long you stop trying to get things right in case you accidentally get them wrong. And that’s what stands in the way of progress.

Humility on the other hand, allows me to own my mistake, apologise to them for my assumption and treat the experience as a lesson in how to show up better next time.

This lesson isn’t just relevant to advocacy work. It’s relevant to your wider business too. Assuming you’re as human as the rest of us Reader, I’m guessing you’ve made mistakes along the way. So today I want to invite you to let go of any regrets you might have about things you did or didn’t do to grow your business and instead keep taking imperfect action - because it's only by trying that you're going to learn how do to do better.

Reminder: if one of the things you want to get better at is getting leads from Instagram, there is a FREE Instagram masterclass, ‘My Content Brings All The Leads To The Yard’* on 22nd January with Lindsay McGlone, instagram expert and influencer. They always deliver mega value so join me and grab this opportunity to learn from them for FREE!

Humbly yours,

From Laila with love ❤️

Hello Reader, This week seems to have lasted longer than the whole of January and yet somewhere I’ve still not managed to get everything done that I planned to - can you relate, Reader? It’s been the last week before half term for the kids so they’ve been that challenging mix of excited and exhausted as they’ve juggled a school disco, a ‘bring a cuddly toy to school’ day, and being too overtired to actually get to sleep at bedtime. So it felt like a fair assumption that my snail-like pace has...

Hello Reader, Whether you follow politics and world news as part of your daily life or not, it's pretty hard to miss some of the awful things going on in the World right now. The Epstein Files in particular, have brought to light some terrible crimes against some of the most vulnerable people, including children. It's hard to carry on as normal without the weight of the world making life and business feel heavy. And as a business owner, Reader, you wouldn't be alone if you've been questioning...

Hello Reader, Today's email is very practical in nature, I want to to share the steps you can take when you're offer isn't making the sales you were hoping for. Picture the scene - you've mapped out your offer, it's all set up ready to deliver to people and you've been actively promoting it, but... crickets. The first thing I want to say is that this has nothing to do with who you are as a person and you don't suck at business. While you might feel like running and hiding under your duvet...
